RM

RM is a moniker established in 2015. Initially named Real Madrid, it shifted to this shorter form in 2022. The name plays with the concept of authenticity and its merchandise as an attempt to emancipate from authorship. A deep interest in miscommunication and the resulting confusion led to a name that makes it problematic to spread and track data online and off. Started as a platform to work collaboratively, RM now works as a free-standing identity; an empty shell to be inhabited or not, or just a words with several possible meanings. RM’s work in this first decade has focused on identities in development, on diseases and their correlation with language, and more broadly with narrative, with humor, and of course, with decay.

Solo exhibitions were held at Kunstmuseum St. Gallen; Auto Italia, London; CEC Centre d’Edition Contemporaine, Geneva; Swiss Institute, New York; Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris. Recently, their work has been included in group shows held at Museo Madre, Naples; Fondazione ICA Milano; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; Quadriennale Roma, Rome.

RM received the Swiss Art Award in 2018 and 2023.

In December 2025 a new work by RM will light up the Plainpalais in Geneva, as part of the project Neon Parallax.
