GianCarlo Montebello (1941-2020) was a designer and producer of artists’ jewelry. After studying applied arts in Milan he started to work in the field of interior design in collaboration with Dino Gavina. In 1967, together with his wife Teresa Pomodoro, he founded GEM Montebello, producing limited jewelry editions with more than fifty international artists such as Lucio Fontana, Man Ray, Meret Oppenheim and Niki de Saint-Phalle. While these editions enjoyed international acclaim and are present in important collections, in 1978 Montebello began designing his own body ornaments, taking up the challenge of different materials and everyday objects.
